DESCRIPTION: This is a group of residents, walkers, and bicycle activists that has been active since 1996. They are concerned with the connections between parks in this area and also about the safety of the Arborway. As one member put it, "we want to be seen as a park district."

The Coalition requested a traffic study that covers the stretch of road from Jamaica Pond to the Arnold Arboretum, which was done in 1999. It was published, but the MDC has taken no action since then. The study has not been accepted by the Arborway Coalition because the comments the Coalition has sent in about the study have yet to be addressed.

Since 2002, members of the Arborway Coalition have been active in the planning process for the Arborway Master Plan. Members are working with the City of Boston Department of Parks and Recreation, the Emerald Necklace Conservancy, the Arnold Arboretum, consultants, and other groups to craft a plan for the parkway.
