DESCRIPTION: A group of citizen volunteers organized to promote the Arnold Arboretum as a public park. The Conservancy instigated and was instrumental in bringing about the Blackwell Footpath between Forest Hills Station and the South Street Gate of the Arboretum. The Conservancy's motivation was to "improve access to the world-renowned Arboretum by public transportation and make visits to it more enjoyable."
The Conservancy was responsible for contributing more than $400,000 to the design and construction of the Blackwell Footpath through the Bussey Brook Meadow/ urban wild. The Conservancy plans to participate in the development of a management plan for the Bussey Brook Meadow. The organization will also advocate for better signage, benches, and plantings around the Blackwell Footpath, as well as the expansion of the path system to Arboretum Road and Peters Hill.
John Freeman is the president of the Arboretum Park Conservancy. John Blackwell has been a long-term leader of the organization.
