CONDITIONS:
The center is located on Brookway Road, a low volume residential road directly across the street from the Archdale Village public housing complex. The center is a bright, clean building with many windows. There is a wildly popular indoor basketball court with high ceilings and colorful banners; a computer lab with classes for both children and adults; and a small recreational room where community meetings often take place. The computer instructor at the center describes it as "packed with kids every afternoon."

HISTORY:
The Archdale Community Center was built in the 1970s. At that time it was a windowless cinder-block box that was vandalized and closed within five years. In 1991, the City renovated the center.

The City of Boston's Community Schools Department ran the center in 1991. In 2002, the Boston Community Centers run the facility. This is the largest human services provider in the City of Boston.
