OWNERSHIP:
It is not clear who owns this connector. Morton Street is under the jurisdiction of the Metropolitan District Commission (MDC) while American Legion Highway is generally managed by the City of Boston. It seems that no public agency cares for the access road between the two roads.

CONDITIONS:
This short roadway connector between Morton Street and American Legion Highway - both major roads - is a dumping ground and considered dangerous by some residents. There are shopping carts, appliances, car seats, barrels, boxes and smaller debris in the woodlands along both sides of the road. The road is not excessively traveled and is wide enough for a vehicle to pull off the side of the road for a moment to dump without blocking traffic. The fence along either side of the road is broken in several places.

ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES:
On both sides of the access road, the land slopes away from the street. The southern side of the connector is a wetland area. A section of the Canterbury Brook - a tributary of the Stony Brook - flows along the edge of the dumping ground towards Morton Street. The dumping may or may not be a source of contamination of the Canterbury Brook.
