CONDITIONS: Bethel AME Church, the Parkside Christian Academy, the Ten Point Coalition, and numerous other community ministries are located within these two buildings. The Ten Point Coalition began as an informal coalition of African American pastors in Boston who came together to put an end to violence among youth in inner city Boston. Today, the Ten Point Coalition has expanded to become an international organization. Bethel AME Church is one of the most vital new churches in the Heart of the City.
Next to two church, school, and office buildings lies a parking lot that is interrupted by an outcropping of Roxbury Puddingstone, as well as a small playground, and an outdoor swimming pool. The church has long-term plans to build a new facility on this currently vegetated land.

CONTEXT: Behind the school is a steeply graded hill that drops down to the Williams Street urban wild and the adjacent Minton Stable Gardens. Franklin Park is directly across the street from the church/ school. A tall chainlink fence lines the park in this area, but there is a small gap in the fence that accesses the Wilderness trail system.

PLANNING PROCESSES: In 2002 and 2003, church leaders have led the congregation in a capital stewardship campaign to renovate and improve the current facilities.
