Teaching and research are the
core tenets of our mission at the John F. Kennedy
School of Government, and they often overlap as our faculty, fellows, scholars and students work together to seek solutions to some of the world’s most complex challenges. The research pioneered here at Harvard Kennedy School comprises a wide range of policy areas of both national and international significance. This Research Report is a reflection of that work and of the School’s mission to combine scholarly excellence with genuine impact.
This report is a compendium of the work conducted by our many
policy and research centers, programs and projects; the
publications of individual faculty, including books, working
papers and journal articles; our students’ doctoral dissertations;
and new cases produced by graduates and researchers. Many of these
works have affected the discussions and decisions in the public
policy arena, and serve as examples of the way in which ideas
generated at the Kennedy School lead the way in development,
international security, economics, social policy, public
management and many other arenas.
The public challenges facing the world are increasingly complex
and interrelated. Solutions require creative, rigorous, pragmatic
research. Harvard Kennedy School will continue to develop
innovative and powerful ideas to help combat these pressing issues
in order to effect meaningful and positive change. This vitally
important work is increasingly the result of collaborative efforts
involving scholars from across several disciplines. And the
outcomes can often be transformative.
The many areas of research we are engaged in reflect the
School’s continuing commitment to public service and our
collective desire to make the world a better place. I am proud to
share this resource with you.
